Burnage Free Kick Gives Lions Escape To Victory

Butler was the Referee in today's Division 2 home game against Procladd. Procladd have been on a good run since they were beaten 8-1 by the Lion's at Chells in October. Graham French was in goal for the absent Sanchez in the Lion's starting eleven of: French, P.Farr, A.Jefferies, Fildes, Jordan, Crisp, Dye(C), D.Jefferies, Harrison, Burnage and Harvey.

The Lion's got off to a brisk start with Pete Farr neatly placing the ball into space down the right wing for Burnage to attack. Minute's later Burnage's pass found the feet of Danny Jefferies, who had spotted that the Procladd keeper was off his line. As if it was in the script, Jefferies scored with yet another trademark chip from forty yards.

Then the fun began when Procladd scored from the restart. A long ball found the centre forward who was able to beat the Lion's defence to nip the ball pass French into the net. Literally minutes later Procladd took the lead with an almost identical move.

Unruffled, Breachwood continued to attack with the lion's share of possession. Danny Jefferies threaded the ball to the feet of John Harvey, who was able to shimmy past the first defender only for the second defender to take his feet away. Referee Butler awarded the Penalty. A cool and composed Graham Crisp stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way with a right foot shot placed into the bottom left hand corner of the net. It was his first goal of the season and the equaliser for Breachwood.

Procladd continued to make a game of it when they caught Breachwood on the break, The centre forward was able to round Goalkeeper French and shoot from an acute angle.A sliding Andy Fildes was unable to stop the ball for going over the line for a goal.

Feeling that they were in the ascendancy, Procladd continued to attack, with three quick forward players linking well from long balls. They nearly increased their lead. Lion's keeper Graham French diving low to turn a fierce shot onto the post with one hand and then minutes later saving from close range.

Lion's were unable to equalise before half time when a Burnage corner found Andy Fildes at the back post. Despite his quick reactions, his shot hit the post.

3-2 to Procladd at half time. Lion's Manager Mick French changed the formation slightly for the second half. Substitute Ian Canning replaced Peter Farr.

Canning made an immediate impact supporting striker John Harvey, but it was Adam Burnage who had drifted in from the right to pick up the ball on the left-hand edge of the penalty area. He dragged a left foot shot back across the goal, out of reach of the outstretched keeper to find the far corner of the net to give the Lion's another equaliser.

The Lion's then regained the lead at 4-3. A Burnage free kick bobbled around in the area until Danny Dye's shot was saved, but John Harvey was quick to react on the edge of the six yard box to squeeze a shot into the side netting of the goal through a well defended goal line.

Procladd were determined to get back into the game with a fast counter attack down the left wing. A deep cross pulled back across the Lion's penalty area found an unmarked Procladd forward with space to sweep the ball into the corner of the Lion's net for 4-4.

Lion's pushed on from the restart, Danny Jefferies beat three Procladd players with a back heal pass down the left wing for Harrison to cross for another attack. Adam Jefferies got back into the game with some fine tackling and Pete Jordan was confidently able to clear long balls from the Lion's defence.

However Procladd managed to retake the lead when Harrison was deemed to of fouled near the Lion's own right hand corner flag. Procladd scored with a header from the resulting free kick.

Substitute Rob Pearson replaced Harrison, and made some great runs down the left wing.

Losing 4 - 5, Captain Danny Dye drove his men forward with less than ten minutes to go. Burnage got a throw in on the right hand side. From the throw Danny Jefferies let the ball roll across his body into a yard of space and launched a left foot shot goalwards into the far corner of the net for 5-5.

With only minutes remaining, midfielder Graham Crisp proved to be a tricky customer when he was fouled on the left wing just outside the box.
It was nearly a replica of his last cup final goal, when Burnage stepped up to curl the free kick into the far top right hand corner of the Procladd goal to give Lion's all the points.

It was a great game with lots of goals for any neutrals. Procladd are certainly an improved young side and they should continue to do well in this Division.

Peter Jordan was today's Manager's Man of the Match and get a meal for two in his own pub, The Red Lion.

High Five For The Lion's

Today's away game at King George's against Triage with Referee Batcheldor saw the return of Ali Collins. The Lion's starting Eleven was : Sanchez, A.Jefferies, Fildes, French, Harrison, Dye(C), D.Jefferies, P.Farr, Burnage, Canning, Collins.

The Lion's started with fluent football despite playing uphill. The early chances fell to Ali Collins who tested the keeper several times.
Triage pushed up the pitch ocassionally catching Collins and Canning offside. Lion's capitalised on their possession when Danny Jefferies scored a carbon copy of last week's goal against King Pin. He worked the ball into space on the edge of the box and swept the ball into the far lefthand corner of the net. Danny Jefferies was involved in the second goal when he went on a dazzling run into the box, avoided two challenges before being brought down. Batcheldor awarded the Lion's a penalty. A composed Ian Canning stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the lefthand side of the net for two nil. Just before half time Danny Jefferies chipped the ball over the Triage defence as Collins beat the offside trap to slot home goal number three.

Lion's started the second half with good teamwork. FatCat Sanchez confidently dealt with every ball in the penalty area. French and AdamJefferies were composed at the back with Andy Fildes linking well with Harrison and Dye in midfield. Pete Farr got involved attacking down the left, whilst Canning and Collins played off passes from Burnage and Danny Jefferies. Collins continued to trouble the Triage defence with further shots on goal.

Goal number four arrived from a sublime Canning cross on the left for Collins to nod down to Burnage who struck a volley from the edge of the box into the top left corner.

Marney replaced Pete Farr,Jordan replaced Fildes, and Gardner replaced Harrison. Gardner was able to burst forward to thread the ball to the feet of Collins to again trouble the Triage defence. Lions continued to attack with good passing movement between Dye, Burnage and Canning, allowing Burnage to sweep crosses in from the right.

Goal number five eventually arrived when a one two between Ali Collins and Danny Jefferies gave Collins space on the edge of the box to fire his shot into the roof of the net for his second goal. Marney was unlucky not to of score after a daring run down the left wing. His shot from an a acute angle seemed to roll the length of the goal line before being cleared.

A five nil win with a good team performance and another clean sheet for Sanchez.

Today's Manager's Man of the Match was Danny Dye for an inspired Captain's performance.

Lion's Pin On Three More Points, With Two Nil Win Over King Pin United

A cold morning at Hampson Park. Referee L Smith led the minute's silence for the passing of George Best.
The Lion's were focused on getting back to winning ways in the League after the break for the County Cup last week and losing to Marquis of Lorne the week before. The Lion's starting eleven lined up with Sanchez, Abrahams, A.Jefferies, French, Fildes, Harrison, Dye(C), D.Jefferies, P.Farr, Burnage & Canning.

The Lion's started positively with some attacking moves down the right wing. Burnage hit the bar early on from outside the box with another trademark free kick.

Lion's kept up the pressure with Harrison able to break up long ball counter attacks across the midfield. However King Pin managed to get their key players into the game with a fifteen minute spell towards the end of the first half.

Nil Nil at half time.

The second half continued in competitive spirit. Abrahams found space to attack combining with a composed Pete Farr sprinting down the left wing. Danny Dye drove through the heart of the King Pin defence to unleash a shot that needed a top drawer save from the goalkeeper. Burnage whipped in another corner but French headed wide. At the other end the agile Fat Cat Sanchez pulled off two great saves. The nearest King Pin came was hitting the outside of the post from range. Fildes pulled the strings in defence to keep the Lion's on the attack. Canning, Burnage and Danny Jefferies all tested the King Pin keeper, who was in top form, again and again.
Adam Jefferies tried a cheeky chip from 40 yards that the keeper had to tip over the Bar.

The breakthrough came from yet another corner. The ball broke loose on the edge of the box to Danny Jefferies. He attracted three defenders but he worked the ball to dig out a dazzling shot into the far left-hand bottom corner of the net.

Gardner replaced Pete Farr. Gardner made progress down the left and kept the ball in play to put in a cross to the near post. Canning's great anticipation got his foot in front of the defender to poke the ball into the bottom corner of the net for two nil.

King Pin found it difficult to get back into the game at that point. Pete Jordan came on minutes from the end as the Lion's looked to secure the three points. All in all it was great team performance and another clean sheet for Sanchez.

This weeks Manager's Man of the Match was Ian Canning and he wins a meal for two in the Red Lion.

Substitutes not used: D.Farr, Crisp.

Lions through to 4th Round of County Cup For The First Time After 5-3 Win Over PT Rangers

A frosty but sunny morning in Breachwood, Referee Hucker agreed to delay the kick off 15 minutes for this Intermediate County Cup, 3rd Round Tie. Lions opposition were PT Rangers from Hertford and who play in Division 2 of the Mercury Waltham League.
The Lion's starting eleven: Sanchez, Abrahams, French, Fildes, A.Jefferies, Crisp, Dye(C), D.Jefferies, P.Farr,Canning & Burnage.
Although Lion's were at home, Lion's played in their green and yellow away shirts as PT Rangers played in white and blue.

For the first ten minutes both sides probed their unknown opposition. Lion's edged the initial possession with Danny Jefferies instrumental in midfield, Graham French, Ian Abrahams and Andy Files defended with excellent composure.

Danny Dye flashed an early chance over the bar from inside the Rangers box. Graham Crisp was certainly up for the game as he crunched through several telling tackles. Danny Dye had another chance similar to his first after a well worked move down the left hand side. This time he rattled the crossbar. Lion's needed to capitalise on their fluent play. The breakthrough came when on the edge of the box, Canning nodded down the ball into the path of the feisty Pete Farr. Farr had only one thing in mind, putting the ball into the top left corner of the goal.

One nil to the Lion's at half time.

Lion's got a second early in the second with a one two between Adam and Danny Jefferies. With sublime understanding Adam collected the ball from his brother feinted a defender and slipped the ball into the box for Danny to cheekily chip the keeper. Lion's pushed on for more goals, a superb cross from Abrahams gave Canning a great chance to add his name to the score but he shot wide. However moments later Canning made a big one two cross to Burnage who returned the ball for a trademark Canning Cannonball into the roof of the net for 3 nil.

Every cup tie has a twist, PT Rangers wanted to make a game of it and sought to test Sanchez in goal, who saved with his cap at one point. Adam Jefferies also clearing off the line.
It was from a Rangers free kick that found an unmarked Ranger's player at the back post who made no mistake in putting the ball into the Lion's net.

Harrison had replaced the injured Crisp and was quickly in the game with a slide rule pass through the Rangers defence for Danny Jefferies. He was always favourite for a one on one with the Ranger's keeper, and coolly slotted his second.
David Farr and Wayne Gardner replaced Abrahams and Pete Farr. David Farr was soon harassing for the ball and Gardner used his physical presence to his advantage as Lion's looked to secure the lead.

The game looked won at 4-1. But Ranger's decided it was game on when they got their second. The ball spilled from a crunching collision between Harrison and a Rangers midfield player. Rangers took advantage of the available space to score. The game was still alive at 4-2. But Rangers were down to ten men when the Ranger's midfield player had to go off from the previous collision with Harrison but they had used all of their substitutes. Harrison although hobbling, stayed on as Lion's had also used all their subs.

With ten minutes to go Ranger's headed their third goal to put the pressure back onto the Lion's. With minutes remain Burnage decided to add his name on the scoresheet with a well taken goal to ensure Lion's went into the 4th round for the first time.

Danny Jefferies was the Managers Man of the Match and wins another meal for two in the Red Lion.

Another big thank you to our loyal home supporters who braved the cold, Including: the Jefferies family, Ash, Mel and Soccerettes Laura & Beanwack sporting their bobble hats.

Lion's Leave The Fight Back Too Late in 4-3 Defeat to Marquis of Lorne

I.Ellis was the referee for today's game at Canterbury Way. With Collins and Harvey still injured and with Turkentine and Danny Jefferies absent, the Lions starting eleven was as follows: Sanchez, A.Jefferies, French, Collier, Dye(C), Fildes,Crisp,Burnage,Gardner, Harrison & Canning.

It was a lacklustre start for the Lion's in the first half against a Marquis of Lorne side that I think had some ETUK players from last season. Lion's lacked their usual fluid passing but still managed to battle for an early corner. It was taken by Gardner, still sporting a red streak in his hair. The ball eventually broke loose to Burnage on the edge of the box, whose square pass found Captain Danny Dye in the middle of the box. Dye spotting the keeper off his line chipped the ball into the back of the net.

Lion's hoped the early lead would help settle them down, but Marquis of Lorne battled every ball forcing the Lion's players to make mistakes. Marquis scored two quick goals from the break down of Lion's possession. Sanchez had to punch clear other Marquis attacks.

Lion's made heavy weather of getting back into the game, but pushing forward left them exposed to a Marquis counter attack which resulted in their third goal.

Lion's started the fight back just before half time in earnest, Harrison narrowly putting the ball over the bar from a Burnage corner that whipped across the six yard box.

Lion's started the second half better organised. French and Collier were stronger at the back. Adam Jefferies worked well with Fildes, playing more forward down the right and feeding balls into Canning and Burnage. Dye and Crisp supported the attack well from midfield with cover from Harrison. Gardner and later Rob Pearson fought for every loose ball on the left.

With dominant possession, Lion's just had to find the end product. It came with a one two between Burnage and Fildes just inside the box. Burnage slotted the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. He is now the Lion's joint top goalscorer with Ali Collins so far this season.

David Farr and Ian Abrahams replaced Harrison and Crisp. Lion's pushed everyone forward to get level but were exposed for another counter attack against the run of play. A long ball fell between the goalkeeper Sanchez and the defence, but the Marquis forward, Thompson was first to the ball to put Marquis 4-2 up. Lion's respond with more attacking play. Fildes anticipated the ball breaking free at the back post and scored his first goal of the season. At 4-3 down, Lion's were still pushing for the equaliser, but had run out of time when Ellis blew the final whistle.

Thompson had been the instrumental player for Marquis of Lorne

Substitute not used:Pete Farr.

Today's Manager's Man of the Match was Andy Fildes for his best display of the season. He win's another meal for two in the Red Lion.

LION'S go top of Division 2!

In Div 2, Station fielded a player who was banned from a 6-a-side league, against Breachwood Lions on the opening day, so their 2-0 win instead becomes 3 points to Breachwood , but no goals are awared. So instead of being level on points, Breachwood go 6 points clear!

If both Station & Cooper's win their games in hand we will all be level on points, They could be key games of the season when we all play each again.

Lion's hit another 4 in 4-1 win over Newman

Lions had won 2 nil away against Newman at Peartree Park earlier in the season.
The Starting Lion's eleven for today's home game at Chapel Road was as follows:
Sanchez, A.Jefferies, French, Fildes, Dye(C), Burnage, Turkentine, Gardner, D.Jefferies, Collins, Harrison.
The referee was D.Wisson.

The Lion's started the game playing against the wind and rain but Gardner, with a red streak in his hair, carved out an early chance down the left and Danny Jefferies had a early chance from range.

Collins had started lively up front and his trickery earned a free kick outside the Newman box. Burnage stepped up to take the free kick, curling the ball over the wall, for it to bounce under the keeper in to the net. Burnage keeps an impressive goal scoring record from free kicks.

Ironically the goal was a call to action for Newman, who attacked for a large part of the first half. Lions Keeper, Sanchez made a stretching save to keep Lion's ahead. Unfortunately Collins suffered a dead leg and was replaced by Pearson. Pearson, committed to the cause, was unlucky not to score when his chased a loose ball into the box and the Newman keeper kicked the ball against him from close range.

One nil to the Lion's at half time. Lion's started the second half brightly despite Newman hitting the post. Adam Jefferies, French and Fildes defended magnificently, with Danny Dye anchoring the midfield, giving licence for Turkentine & Danny Jefferies to attack. Collier replaced the battling Gardner.

The second Lion's goal came from a Newman attack, when the ball broke out of the Lion's defence to Harrison who held the ball for Fildes to pass forward into the run of Pearson. The ball was over hit but drew the Newman out of his goal to clear. However the clearance went straight to Turkentine midway inside the Newman half. With the keeper out of his goal,Turk's accurate shot from range found an empty net.

Moments later, Lion's should of had a third when the keeper managed to turn over Harrison's diving header from a whipped in cross from Burnage.

The third goal eventually came when another Burnage free kick found Turkentine at the far post. Turkentine's outstretched leg managed to squeeze the ball just inside the far post as the keeper desperately tried to cover.

Jordan replaced a battle scarred Pearson, and gave a fresh outlet down the left wing.
Burnage, on top of his game, drifted into the box from the left and skilfully hit a shot into the far right corner of the goal.

Four nil to the Lion's but Newman pushed on to get a consolidation goal ten minutes from time, with the forward beating Sanchez at the near post.

Final score 4-1

Andy Fildes was the manager's man of the match for his defensive display and wins a meal for two in the Red Lion.

Substitute not used: D.Farr

Another big thank you to the Home supporters who turned out to watch the game despite the rain. Thanks to the Jefferies family, Laura, Steve Marlow, Ash, Pete, Brains, Ian & Mel and of course Beanwack.

Lions Beat MBDA 4-3 in a Gripping 2nd Half Cup Tie

Lions started with a one goal advantage due to the Invitation Cup divisional difference rule. MBDA play in the 1st Division and Lions play in the 2nd Division. MBDA had won 1 nil in a pre season friendly against the Lions at the Chapel Road ground, so it was well set for an interesting game.

The Invitation Cup was an opportunity for the Lions to rotate the squad a little. The Lions starting eleven was: Sanchez, A.Jefferies, French, Collier, P.Farr, Jordan, Harrison, Crisp, D.Jefferies, Gardner and Canning(C)

It was a bad start for the Lions, the changed system and rotation did not afford the players a chance to gel. MBDA had attacked from the kick off and a diagonal pass through the midfield picked out the MBDA centre forward, who side stepped the defence to make it one nil, and cancel out the Lions goal advantage.

The Lions tried to find their feet but another quick MBDA attack ended in another goal, but fortunately for the Lions the linesman had spotted an offside and the goal didn't stand.

However MBDA remained strong and they scored their second with a header from a corner.

Lions battled to get back into the game, Danny Jefferies linked well with Ian Canning who pulled out wide to attack down the right wing. His cross found Crisp arriving into the box to head the ball goalward, but it bounced off the bar.

MBDA hit the post from a corner but Adam Jefferies got the ball clear.

At half time the Lions changed the formation and made two changes; Burnage and Dye replacing Collier and the injured Pete Farr.

This was still a cup tie, and the Lions started the second half in a vibrant fashion, with the changes having instant effect. Harrison was back up front supporting Canning and pushing the MBDA defensive line deeper, which allowed more space for the Lions midfield to pass the ball more freely.

Burnage drifted in from the right wing and was able to curl a shot into the top lefthand corner of the MBDA net.

Confidence came back into the Lions play. Sanchez had better command of his area in goal. The defence was more assured, Graham French enjoying a return to the side, cleared any danger. Jordan found room to link with the battling Gardner playing wide and attacking down the left wing, whilst Adam Jefferies had space to play some superb passes into the channels. Dye and Crisp work the midfield to give supply to Burnage and Danny Jefferies who managed to find space behind the movement of Captain Canning and old Harrison up front.

It paid off. Defending deep from a MBDA attack,Harrison won the ball on the edge of the Lions area. It quickly swept through the Lions midfield with Canning making some excellent runs. Danny Jefferies accepted the invitation to have a shot from the edge of the area. He found the back of the MBDA net with a well placed shot.

MBDA showed their Division one calibre and continued to attack with pace. A cross from a move on the right found an unmarked player lurking at the back post to score.

MBDA were on track to win the match and draw the tie until Danny Jefferies picked up the ball on the edge of the box and nutmeg a defender. He was driven wide into the box, almost to the line, but with the advancing keeper narrowing the angle he still found the space to strike the ball on the outside of his boot across the face of the goal. The ball hit the far post and bounced into the empty net for the Lions to win the match 4-3.

Danny Jefferies got yet another Man of the Match award and wins a free meal for two in the Red Lion.

Lions Fly Into The Next Round After 4-3 Win Over Berkhamsted Tornadoes

The Lions faced Berkhamsted Tornadoes in the 2nd Round of The Sunday County Intermediate Cup. Today's Visitor's are currently third in Division 2 of The Reklaw Berkhamsted Sunday Football League. D. Hucker was today's Referee

The Lion's starting eleven was: Sanchez, Fildes, P.Farr, A.Jefferies, Harrison, Gardner, Crisp, D.Jefferies, Burnage, Canning, Collins

Lions had most of the early pressure but with no real efforts on goal until about Burnage took a throw in on the right wing, halfway inside the Tornadoes half. The throw went over the head of Canning to the advancing Danny Jefferies who glanced a header into space down the right wing for Burnage to collect. Burnage whipped a cross to the back post for Gardner to head high into the top corner.

A move from a Lions corner broke down and the Tornadoes were quick on the counter attack and the assured centre forward didn't give the Lions keeper Sanchez a chance as he picked his spot to score.

Lions continued to take the game to their opponents, Crisp found Burnage lurking on the right wing. Collins chased the ball into the box and his sheer tenacity gave him the opportunity to pinch the ball away from the keeper and then turn to fire home into the bottom left corner.

The Tornadoes were able to come back again on a counter attack after being given too much space in the middle of the pitch and able to equalise just before half time.

Lions started the 2nd half in pretty much the same fashion. Fildes was the pivot in the defence as Danny Dye who had earlier replaced Harrison, linked the midfield together.A loose ball from a Danny Jefferies shot, ended up at the feet of Burnage inside the penalty area. Burnage calmly placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

The Tornadoes were not yet beaten as they chased every loose ball. Sanchez was unable to hold his save and was just beaten at the second attempt when two forwards quickly worked the ball on the edge of the six yard box to equalise yet again.

Lions pushed on for the winner, Collier hit the bar with a header. Pete Farr and Adam Jefferies both pushed up into the opposition's half. With minutes to go,Collier, who had replaced Gardner, made a sweeping pass for Collins, who had beaten the offside trap to score his second, and for The Lions to take the lead for the Fourth time.

Final Score Lions 4 Berkhamsted Tornadoes 3

The Lions will now face the winners of todays game between PT Rangers and Victoria Park Old Boy's in Round 3 on 20th November.

Ian Canning was today's Managers Man of the Match and wins a free meal for two in The Red Lion.

Hatrick For Collins As Lions Come Back From One Nil Down To Enjoy After Eights

Sanchez, Turkentine, Collins and Collier all returned from injury, freeing up the Lions treatment table.

Today's starting eleven at Chells was; Sanchez, A.Jefferies, Fildes, P.Farr, Crisp, Turkentine, D.Jefferies, Gardner, Burnage, Canning(C) & Collins. The Referee was J Batcheldor.

It was a bit of a scrappy start for the Lions, trying to find their usual passing rythmn. Although two or three times Collins came close to scoring after outpacing the last defender. Ironically it took being a goal down to bring the best out of the Lions. A high ball over the top of the Lions defence bounced awkwardly for Sanchez in goal, unsighted by the sun. The Procladd centre forward will probably not get an easier goal all season.

In response and setting a Captain's example, Ian Canning swept a cross field pass from the halfway line over the last Procladd defender into the feet of a resurgent Ali Collins, who this time made no mistake of putting the ball in the net.

The second soon followed with some swift passing between Gardner, who was strong in a tackle, and Danny Jefferies, playing the ball out to the left wing for Collins to collect. He cut into penaltly area and firmly hit the ball into the far corner of the net.

Burnage made a perfect delivery from a free kick for Turkentine to head home into the top corner for the third goal. Burnage then got the fourth from a loose ball inside the six yard box.

Procladd were at there most threatening from set pieces forcing Sanchez to punch the ball clear on more than one occasion.

Danny Jeffferies hit the bar with a cheeky shot from outside the box just before half time.

4-1 to the Lions at half time, but manager Mickey French felt his team could play better.

In the second half Lions defended in a more reassured manner with Andy Fildes, Adam Jefferies and Pete Farr adept at turning defence into attack.

Turkentine was unlucky not to score his second with a curling freekick from the edge of the D that hit the post.

Lions made some changes halfway though the second half, Harrison, Collier and Pearson came on to replace Turkentine, A.Jefferies & Gardner. The changes meant Graham Crisp, playing his best game of the season, rellished the opportunity to push further forward.

Harrison picked the ball up deep in midfield and lofted a pass over the central defender with an open invitation for Ali Collins to claim his hatrick.

Not to be left out of the goals Captain Canning darted into the box to slot home the sixth and his first of the season, after another passing move across the midfield. He was also there the score the seventh after Collier start a move down the right wing.

By this stage Lions were finding more and more space. Pete Farr, Rob Pearson and Ali Collins were combining well down the left wing. However it was a right wing cross from Burnage, that enabled Rob Pearson to score with a composed finish at the far post for the eight goal.

Lions nearly got another late on when Burnages passing shot zipped across the six yard box in front several advancing Lions players and narrowly missed the far post.

Procladd got some respite five minutes from the end when a challenge from behind by Crisp led to a Procladd penalty. Unfortunately for Procladd the spot kick went inches wide of the left post.

Final Score: Procladd 1 Breachwood Lions 8

Despite the scoreline Procladd played well in patches with some good young players. They would probably improve with a little more organisation.

Adam Burnage was todays Manager's Man of the Match and wins a free meal for two in the Red Lion.

Harvey Net's two in Lion's 4 nil win over White Diamond

The Lion's starting eleven was as follows: French, A.Jefferies, Fildes, P.Farr, Harrison, Dye, D.Jefferies, Burnage, Gardner, Canning & Harvey.

It took a while for the Lion's to get a grip of the game, as the ball zipped off the wet surface. Harrison flashed an early shot high over the bar from midfield.

Half way through the first half, Burnage fed the ball to Canning down the right wing, Canning was able to turn past his marker and hit a superb cross in from the touch line to Harvey inside the box and he drilled the ball low into the far bottom corner past the outstretched keeper.

Captain Dye in command of his midfield linked well with Danny Jefferies who played the ball into the feet of Ian Canning on the edge of penalty area, he was able to turn and make the cutest of passes into the feet of John Harvey who made no mistake of putting the ball into the back of the net. Harvey had deserved his two goals since leading the line for the Lions since the beginning of the season.

The last ten minutes of the first half saw White Diamond increase the frequency of their attacking seeking a reply but it ended two nil to the Lions at half time.

Second half Lions started to press again, with Harvey coming close to getting his hatrick. Burnage having another good game stretching the play out wide on the right with some good interplay with Adam Jefferies who was able to drift forward and have a shot from range. The Whiter Diamond goalkeeper made an impressive save to turn round a Burnage free kick, Harrison headed wide from the resulting corner.

Lions had kept a better shape in the second half with Fildes playing an influential and pivotal role in defence.

The third goal was the result of midfield passing that put in John Harvey who was able to keep the ball in play and pick a pass back across the six yard box. Danny Jefferies slotted the ball home under the diving keeper.

Pete Farr made some great positional play inside his own half, fed the ball into the feet of Danny Jefferies who dug out a long range pass down the left wing. The bustling Wayne Gardner managed to control the ball with an outstretched foot just inside the penalty area and unleashed a fierce shot into the far top right hand corner of the net before his marker could tackle him.

With Twenty minute's to go, Lion's made some changes David Farr, Ian Collier and Peter (Two Pints) Jordan replacing Harrison, A.Jefferies and Gardner. They were all quickly in action defending against a White Diamond side determined to try and get something from the game. The tall centre forward finally managed to beat the offside trap only to be denied by the advancing Graham French in the Lion's goal. French also making another fine save shortly after.

The game finished four nil.

John Harvey was awarded the manager's Man of the Match for his brace of goals and win's a meal for two in the Red Lion.

A Game of Two Halves Lions 1 v 2 Coopers

With no allocated Referee, it was decided that Coopers would Ref the first half and that Lions David Farr would Ref the second half.

Starting Lions eleven: G.French, Collier, Fildes, P.Farr, A.Jefferies, Harrison, Dye, D.Jefferies, Canning, Burnage, Harvey.

The game started with an even tempo and all Lions players getting early touches as the Lions moved the ball across the back and through midfield.

Lions edged the possession but need to turn it into an advantage. Coopers tried the occasional counter attack, but Adam Jefferies was quick enough each time to cut out the threat.

Lions won a free kick on the edge of the penalty box after a foul on Danny Jefferies. Burnage curled the ball up above the wall into the far top corner of the net.

One nil to Lions at half time.

Lions tried to continue where they had left off at half time and Pete Farr went on a run from left back and ended up on the right wing.

Danny Dye moved the ball around midfield. Danny Jeffieries shot from long range rattled the crossbar. John Harvey who had been linking well with Canning hit the post with a header from a Burnage corner.

Coopers fought their way back into the game and Lions keeper Graham French diving full stretch to turn the ball round for a corner. Lions defended another attack but Harrison was judged to of fouled a Cooper's forward with his outstretched leg as the Cooper's player turned.
Coopers scored the penalty although keeper Graham French had guess the right way.

Adam Jefferies suffering from cramp was replaced by Ben Marlow. Graham Crisp replaced Harrison and Collins replaced Canning.

Ten minutes from time Lions failed to clear the ball in a decisive manner and the ball found its way to a Coopers forward inside the Lions box and turn to shoot into the bottom left corner to take all the points for Coopers.

Lions kept on the pressure but were unable to get the clinical finish to get something out of the game after having the majority of the possession for most of the match.

Graham French was the Manager's Man of the Match for keeping Lions in the match with a couple of stunning saves, and wins the meal for two in the Red Lion.

SuperSub Collins Returns From Injury To Net 2 against RD

This fixture always promised to be a good game, after many Pre Season Friendlies in recent seasons. For extra spice, three former RD old boys now play in their native Breachwood.
This was an away fixture at Hampson Park with Garside as the Referee.

Fourth choice keeper Graham French remained in goal for the Lions, with A.Jefferies, Fildes, Jordan, P.Farr, Harrison, Dye, Burnage, Pearson, Canning and Harvey completing the starting line up.

As usual Lion's started brightly, Jordan fed Pearson who began terrorising the RD defence down the left. Despite early possession Lions failed to capitalise, hard ground not helping the midfield getting the ball down to play. Adam Jefferies and Pete Farr combined on the right side of defence to thwart a couple of RD attacks. Lions only real chance at goal first half fell to Burnage, back from his spell in Spain, whose shot flew over the bar from outside the box after picking a path through the RD midfield. RD's main first half chances came from a couple of Free Kicks in midfield, after Harrison had fouled.

So nil nil at half time and some hard talking from Manager Mickey French stirred Lions into action.

Second half, Lion's Captain Dye was in command and vocal in getting the midfield more organised. Burnage unleashing an early shot from outside the box.

With twenty minutes left to go Lions stilled needed a little more cutting edge and some fresh legs if they were going to claim all the points. Collins, Marlow and Gardner replaced Harrison, Pearson and Jordan.

Straight away there was an extra zip to the Lion's play with Marlow always happy to bomb forward from defence. Gardner's trademark throw in's and corner kick's assisted the attack.

The breakthrough came when defender Fildes went on a jinking run through midfield and threaded an excellent pass through to Collins, who stepped inside the area and made no mistake in putting the ball past Andy Gibb into the RD goal.

With Chris Smith in midfield, RD were going to keep the fight up until the end, One of the RD substitutes forced an outstanding save from Graham French at close range.

The Lion's second goal was a textbook move with Collins picking up the ball in midfield and teasing the defence before releasing the ball to the tireless John Harvey on the edge of the RD box. He unselfishly moved the ball onto Canning who came screaming down the right wing, took the ball to the touch line before picking a cross to the back post where Collins and Harvey had continued their run. Collins slotted home from two yards.

All in all it was a great game and a clean sheet as Lion's continue to put pressure on the Division leaders, Station, who did not play today.

Captain Danny Dye won this weeks Manager's Man of the Match award for a free meal for two in The Red Lion.

Clean Sheet for Fourth Choice Keeper, Newman 0 v 2 Lions

Due to absent players, Inspirational Manager Mike French had to reshuffle the team in Lions first away game of the season against Newman at Peartree Park. The Referee was I.Richardson.

Lions used their fourth keeper in three games, with Graham French keeping a clean sheet. The starting line up was, French, Jordan, P Farr, Fildes, A.Jefferies, D.Farr, Harrison, D.Jefferies, Pearson, Canning(C), Harvey.

Lions started lively and getting the ball into the Newman box with a succession of free kicks and corners but all chances were straight at the keeper. Probably the best chance fell to Harrison who failed to connect as the ball flash past the goal.

Newman put together a couple of counter attacks but the final shots sailed high over the bar. Their best chance fell to the tall No16 target man whose shot from the edge of the area narrowly went over the bar.

So Nil Nil at half time.

Second half Lions were determined to get reward for their pressure, with the midfield starting to push up further. Andy Fildes kept the defence well organised to thwart any Newman threats. AJ was once more sublime in anticpating the final ball from Newman, the one time their forwards broke free, Graham French was quick off his line to stop the shot from point blank range.

The break through came from a Lions corner, which Newman failed to clear, Harrison managed to steer the ball into the bottom corner from close range.
There was more pressure to come, with Pete Farr heading close from a Pearson cross. David Farr who had kept things steady in midfield was replaced by Graham Crisp to help push the Lions advantage from the midfield.

Lions began to find more space, with Jordan linking well with Pearson down the left, who reminded everyone with what he could do as he broke down the left wing a couple of times.
On the right Captain Canning was picking up the ball from Pete Farr and interlinking with Danny Jefferies.

The Hard working Harvey broke free into the box and was unlucky not to score as the outcoming keeper saved with his knee, but as the keeper scrambled back to his line, the ball had come to Danny Jefferies who drilled the ball from the edge of the box, straight down the middle into the roof of the net to make it two nil, Newman were not beaten yet and still managed to get the ball to the tall frontman.

Lions confidence was rising, Gardner replaced Pearson, cut inside from the left and flashed a shot accoss the Newman goal which the keeper did well to save, Newman were further under pressure with Gardner's long throws into the box.

A good battling game with Lions managing to get the points with another clean sheet.

This weeks Manager's Man of the Match was Danny Jefferies who get this weeks free meal for two in the Red Lion Pub.
A big thanks to our supporters who made the away trip, especially to The Jefferies family on Julies Birthday, and also Lou French.

Turkish Delight! Lions 4 v 0 Stevenage Boro Seniors

Ian Abrahams pull out of the warm up with an unfortunate reoccurrence of an ankle injury. Ian Turkentine returned to captain the side in the absence of Danny Dye. Lions Manager Mickey French was ref due to shortage of ref's in the league at the moment.

Due to two goalkeepers being out with injury from last weeks game, Lions handed a debut to Graham Ashley. The Lions starting line up was Ashley, A.Jefferies, Fildes, Ian Collier, P.Farr, D.Farr, D.Jefferies, Turkentine, Canning, Pearson,Harvey.

Lions started positively, with the midfield moving the ball through the SBS half. Early chances fell to Canning and Danny Jefferies, testing the keeper from outside the box. SBS adjusted to the conditions and managed a couple of counter attacks as the ball zipped along the wet surface in the drizzle. The Lions defence was well organised as Ashley commanded from the back.

John Harvey's industry up front paid off with some delicate interplay with the midfield, saw the ball zip across the SBS penalty area, a defender was unable to clear and Turkentine's outstretched leg guided the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

The second half started with further pressure in the SBS half, with most of the chances coming from the Lions midfield with Danny Jefferies scoring the Lions second. Harrison replaced David Farr. Gardner and French replaced Pearson and Collier, to keep up the tempo. Lions sensed more goals as SBS tired as they unfortunately did not have any substitutes.

Ashley's long goal kick almost caught out the goalkeeper at the other end. Then last weeks man of the match Adam Jefferies shook off a knock to burst through the midfield to test the keeper from outside the box. Turkentine got his second after the ball zipped around like a pinball in the SBS penalty area.

Gardner made a late run down the left and won a corner to keep the pressure on. SBS still managed to launch counter attacks but were unable to break down a well organised Lions defence.

Danny Jefferies did what he had been threatening to do all game, he worked some space and chipped the goalkeeper from 40 yards for his second after spotting the keeper off his line.

In almost the last kick of the game, Lions had a penalty claim for handball, but the linesman had spotted an offside.

All in all is was great for the Lions to get their first win and first points of the season and build confidence for next week. The million dollar question is "Who will be playing in goal nex week?"

Managers Man of the Match was awarded to Graham Ashley for a debut clean sheet and a convincing display. He wins this weeks meal for two in the Red Lion.

Lions 0 v 2 Station

It was a sense of deja vu for the Lions on the opening day of the season. The Lions haven't won the first game of the season for at least the last four years. The first game always seem to be at home in brilliant sunshine, but as in previous years there were some players still on holiday, some out with pre season injuries, or even playing tennis! Still the Lions have gone on to have a good season in the last three years so lets hope it's a good omen!

The capable Crisp came in for Harrison who pull out of the team due a an reoccurence of an old knee injury during the warm up. The starting eleven was McNeeley, Jordan, Ian, Fildes, A.Jefferies, Crisp, Dye, D.Jefferies, P.Farr, Canning, Harvey.

The first half started brightly, with the Lions confidently absorbing alot of early pressure from Station. Lions counter attacked with an early chance from Pete Farr saved by the keeper.
Lions pushed up and started to pass and move in the midfield. Then Station counter attacked but with the Station frontman caught two yards offside. But five minutes later he was through and it took a great save from Stefan McNeeley with his feet to deny the Forward No6(Woody?).

The game had quite a high tempo given the heat. The Station No6 got through again but McNeeley was quick off his line and came off the worst as they clashed for a 50:50 ball.

McNeely had to come off and was replaced in goal by Jose Sanchez making his debut and immediately pull off a couple of great saves, tipping the ball round the goal and punching clear, taking command of his area, unfortunately his pulled a muscle with his first goalkick.

Again Lions pushed forward with Danny Jefferies winning headers in the midfield, he then played a great pass down the right to John Harvey who went pass a defender and then cut inside the penalty area but was brought down by the goalkeeper before he had a chance to slot home. Interestingly Referee Brown only gave a yellow card to the Station Keeper. Ian Canning stepped up to take the Penalty. He succeeded in sending the keeper the wrong way but the ball ,narrowly, went the wrong side of the left post. So Nil Nil at half time.

Steve Farr came on to replace Pete Jordan in defence for the second half.
Lions were unable to fully clear a Station corner which fell to their No10(simmo?) who hit the ball into the roof of the net. Lions tried to correct the scoreline with chances falling to Pete Farr and Danny Jefferies. John Harvey worked hard keeping the ball up for the midfield.
Rob Pearson replaced Pete Farr who had worked hard up and down the left. The formation was changed to try and get the equaliser. Unfortunately Station managed a quick counter attack behind the Lions defence with the Station No6 running through to slot home.

Had the penalty gone in before half time it may of been a different game and Lions had their chances that may of been more sucessful on another day. Station may be tipped to win this division but the Lions are confident that they can push them all the way and look forward to the return fixture later in the season.

Adam Jefferies was the Manager's Man of the Match based on his Opta Stats and turning defense into attack and he wins this weeks free meal for two in the Red Lion.

Substitutes not used: Gardner; French, Abrahams.

Lions 0 v 1 MBDA

This was the last PSF before the start of the new season next week. The starting eleven saw a debut for Stefan McNeeley in goal; Jordan, Ian , Fildes, A.Jeffries, Harrison, Turkentine, D.Jeffries, P.Farr, Burnage and Canning. Lions started well with composed passing through the midfield. MBDA came back on counter attacks with long balls behind the Lions fullbacks. Lions had several chances with shots from Danny Jeffries and Ian Canning. The keeper also tipping a Harrison header over the bar. Some quick thinking reactions from the Lions keeper to deny MBDA attackers meant that the score was nil nil at half time. Lions started the second half in much the same way but MBDA had tightened up. Another counter attack saw a sweeping crossfield pass to the MBDA Number 3 on the right wing who shot at the right time to score in the far corner, pass the outcoming keeper. Lions stepped up the pressure with Turkentine and Burnage pushing on. Lions made some changes to try and get the equaliser. Graham Crisp on for Harrison, Gardner and Joe Farr on for Pete Farr and Pete Jordan. Again Danny Jeffries and Ian Canning had some great chances as well as a Gardner overhead kick. It was a game that Lions felt they didn't deserve to lose. However it was a settled performance particularly against a team from a higher division, and with some key players still to come back into the squad. (Sub not used D.Farr)

Lions 2 v 4 Luton Postals

Breachwood again fielded a make shift side- Gk Ian Abrahams RB Peter Farr, LB Two Pint Pete, CB's Steve Farr & Andy Fildes a Midfield of David Farr, Captain DD and Turk with Adam Burnage, Wayne Gardner and John Harvey upfront.

Breachwood started very cautiously after the onslaught sustained in the previous match and resulted in some long balls for the stikers to chase, after 5-10 min the team started to gel and get back to our usual passing football. On the 15min mark a through ball by Peter Farr to John Harvey caused major panic in their area, John sold the defender a Huge dummy (bigger than King Kongs) and got to the by-line to provide a cross for Captain Marvel to side foot home.

Postal's began to put pressure on the make shift back 5 and came close with a few efforts, 1 hitting the bar and a last ditch effort by Peter Farr to clear off the line. Close to half time Postal's got an equaliser from nothing a ball cleared out from the corner that sat up nicely for the Postal's captain to rifle a shot from 25 yards into the bottom left hand corner.

After a good first half Breachwood saw the withdrawal of Peter Farr due to injury and the introduction of Rob Pearson at right back, the second half started much the same as the end of the first half. An inspirational performance by David Farr in the holding role saw most of Postals attacks broken down, although Postals threw everything but the kitchen sink at the lions defence the much experienced pairing of Steve Farr and Andy Fildes coped with the young fresh quick lads of Postals.

Breachwood took the lead again through a well worked goal Adam Burnage cutting in from the right and supplying a through ball to John (The Goal Machine) Harvey, John muscled off the centre back and wrong footed the goal keeper before slotting home in the bottom left hand corner.

Postals pulled back level when the off side trap was broken and the postals striker took full advantage slotting home past the inexperienced Lions Keeper. After dirty tactics by the very young Postals supporters throwing abuse from behind the net at our stand in keeper Postal took the lead, the left back was able to bring the ball forward cut in to the centre and from 35 yards out hit a screamer that totally caught out our keeper and landed in the back of the net. Within a couple of minutes Postals struck again from about 35 yards lobbing the now, dazzled Lions keeper.

To round up a very encouraging performance, much improved from the lilley game with a score line that did not match the reality of the game.

Lions 6 v 5 BarAbsolute (Hitchin Blues)

After taking the positive aspects of Wednesday nights game against Lilley, it was time to vary the fomation and try some players in some slightly different positions.
Both sides started brightly with the Blues taking the lead after about 15mins.
Minutes later Turks weaved through several players before being fouled. The Ryman League Ref award a free kick on the edge of the area. Turk himself took a sweet free kick curling past the keeper into the far right corner, true Turkish Delight!

Lions took the lead from a Turks throw in on the left, flicked on by G into the path of Ian Canning whose quick thinking feet scored from outside the box. Blues came back to equalised after Lions failed to clear the ball in a congested penalty area that ended with a gift for the Blues foward from 6 yards out.
G was disposessed from a throw in on the half way line and some quick passing led to Blues taking the lead.
Just before half time a Lions attack down the Right fed John Harvey who darted into the box and scored from a narrow angle, beating the keeper at the near post who could only help the ball into the net.

Lions started the second half brightly, A Turks set piece was cleared only as far as G, who fed John Harvey in space inside the box and made no mistake in netting his second.
Blues pinned the Lions back for a spell of 15 mins or so before an excellent counter attack from Gardner, Harvey & Canning. Haveys pass allowed Canning contol the ball, move past a played before hitting his second from outside the box.

Not to be outdone, a Blues player hit a screamer into the top corner from midfield. Lions were beginning to enjoy more space on the counter attack. Pete Farr beat the offside trap only to put the ball over the bar, he later rose like a salmon at the back post to head a goal from a Turkentine corner.

Blues continued to push, only for Goalkeeper French to bring down a Blues player for a penalty as he went past him. Blues scored the penalty in the last kick of the game. The game was well played by both teams.

Lions Team: French, S Farr, Fildes, Marlow, Jordan, Dye, Turkentine, D Farr, Harrison, Canning, Harvey. Subs used: Pearson, Gardner, P Farr, Pheron

Lions 3 - 6 Lilley

The first Pre-Season game saw the long awaited debut for our new striker
John Harvey, we lined up with a cameo performance from Goalkeeper Ross Towler, Steve Farr, Graham & Ben at the back, Maggot, Andy F, DD, Turk & Ian C with John & DJ leading the strike
force.
We had a less than perfect start to the match, we did our usual playing nice flowing
football and missed a couple of chances only to be hit on the break 3 times
within the first half hour.
Lilley had 3 shots in the first half and scored all three, the first from a
dubious free kick which Ross managed to get a hand to but could not keep
out, the second a mistake by Ben with Ross way out of goal presented them
with a sweet lob and the third from a counter attack.

During this mad spell there were lots of positives, our first goal started with a
long pass forward from Steve to DJ who controlled it took 2 players on and
released it to DD who carved open their defence with a superb pass to John
Harvey, a quick control and turn opened up for a cross which was met by DJ
for a superb volley into the bottom corner.
In our defence we played some lovely football but were unable to capitalise
on our chances with both John and Ian C going close.

A complete change in personnel for the second half saw a line up of Ross,
Ian A, trialist Ian and Wiggy at the back a midfield of Burnage, Turk,
DJ, Chris Squires and 2 Pint Pete with Wayne and Rob up front.
The second half stated the same as the first quick counter attacks, a strike
from outside the area by Burnage produced a goal from nothing to make it 3-2
but within a couple of minutes the very quiet second half team were opened
up and lilley took full advantage making it 4-2.
Luckily for Breachwood, Lilley began to tire and the counter attacks became
less frequent but it was not long before it was 5-2 before Chris Squires
scored a superb lob from outside the area.
Lilley finished off the game with another counter attack which gave the
lilley striker time to bring the ball down in the area change from one foot
to the next and then pick his spot in the bottom corner.
All in all a work out for most players

Looking forward to Bar Absolute(Hitchin Blues) on Sunday

New Season

The Lions are looking forward to the new season with pre season training well under way, At least one new signing and some interesting pre season friendlies lined up
