Harvey Net's two in Lion's 4 nil win over White Diamond

The Lion's starting eleven was as follows: French, A.Jefferies, Fildes, P.Farr, Harrison, Dye, D.Jefferies, Burnage, Gardner, Canning & Harvey.

It took a while for the Lion's to get a grip of the game, as the ball zipped off the wet surface. Harrison flashed an early shot high over the bar from midfield.

Half way through the first half, Burnage fed the ball to Canning down the right wing, Canning was able to turn past his marker and hit a superb cross in from the touch line to Harvey inside the box and he drilled the ball low into the far bottom corner past the outstretched keeper.

Captain Dye in command of his midfield linked well with Danny Jefferies who played the ball into the feet of Ian Canning on the edge of penalty area, he was able to turn and make the cutest of passes into the feet of John Harvey who made no mistake of putting the ball into the back of the net. Harvey had deserved his two goals since leading the line for the Lions since the beginning of the season.

The last ten minutes of the first half saw White Diamond increase the frequency of their attacking seeking a reply but it ended two nil to the Lions at half time.

Second half Lions started to press again, with Harvey coming close to getting his hatrick. Burnage having another good game stretching the play out wide on the right with some good interplay with Adam Jefferies who was able to drift forward and have a shot from range. The Whiter Diamond goalkeeper made an impressive save to turn round a Burnage free kick, Harrison headed wide from the resulting corner.

Lions had kept a better shape in the second half with Fildes playing an influential and pivotal role in defence.

The third goal was the result of midfield passing that put in John Harvey who was able to keep the ball in play and pick a pass back across the six yard box. Danny Jefferies slotted the ball home under the diving keeper.

Pete Farr made some great positional play inside his own half, fed the ball into the feet of Danny Jefferies who dug out a long range pass down the left wing. The bustling Wayne Gardner managed to control the ball with an outstretched foot just inside the penalty area and unleashed a fierce shot into the far top right hand corner of the net before his marker could tackle him.

With Twenty minute's to go, Lion's made some changes David Farr, Ian Collier and Peter (Two Pints) Jordan replacing Harrison, A.Jefferies and Gardner. They were all quickly in action defending against a White Diamond side determined to try and get something from the game. The tall centre forward finally managed to beat the offside trap only to be denied by the advancing Graham French in the Lion's goal. French also making another fine save shortly after.

The game finished four nil.

John Harvey was awarded the manager's Man of the Match for his brace of goals and win's a meal for two in the Red Lion.
