Lions Fly Into The Next Round After 4-3 Win Over Berkhamsted Tornadoes

The Lions faced Berkhamsted Tornadoes in the 2nd Round of The Sunday County Intermediate Cup. Today's Visitor's are currently third in Division 2 of The Reklaw Berkhamsted Sunday Football League. D. Hucker was today's Referee

The Lion's starting eleven was: Sanchez, Fildes, P.Farr, A.Jefferies, Harrison, Gardner, Crisp, D.Jefferies, Burnage, Canning, Collins

Lions had most of the early pressure but with no real efforts on goal until about Burnage took a throw in on the right wing, halfway inside the Tornadoes half. The throw went over the head of Canning to the advancing Danny Jefferies who glanced a header into space down the right wing for Burnage to collect. Burnage whipped a cross to the back post for Gardner to head high into the top corner.

A move from a Lions corner broke down and the Tornadoes were quick on the counter attack and the assured centre forward didn't give the Lions keeper Sanchez a chance as he picked his spot to score.

Lions continued to take the game to their opponents, Crisp found Burnage lurking on the right wing. Collins chased the ball into the box and his sheer tenacity gave him the opportunity to pinch the ball away from the keeper and then turn to fire home into the bottom left corner.

The Tornadoes were able to come back again on a counter attack after being given too much space in the middle of the pitch and able to equalise just before half time.

Lions started the 2nd half in pretty much the same fashion. Fildes was the pivot in the defence as Danny Dye who had earlier replaced Harrison, linked the midfield together.A loose ball from a Danny Jefferies shot, ended up at the feet of Burnage inside the penalty area. Burnage calmly placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net.

The Tornadoes were not yet beaten as they chased every loose ball. Sanchez was unable to hold his save and was just beaten at the second attempt when two forwards quickly worked the ball on the edge of the six yard box to equalise yet again.

Lions pushed on for the winner, Collier hit the bar with a header. Pete Farr and Adam Jefferies both pushed up into the opposition's half. With minutes to go,Collier, who had replaced Gardner, made a sweeping pass for Collins, who had beaten the offside trap to score his second, and for The Lions to take the lead for the Fourth time.
