Ian Canning set out the Lion's stall early on, testing the keeper from 25 yards to tip the ball round the post.
French and Fildes kept the Lions defensive lines clear, whilst Pete Farr linked well with Rob Pearson on the left.
Captain Dye showed plenty of drive in the middle of the park, feeding the ball into the Lion's attack.
Breachwood found the breakthrough after 20 minutes when Ian Canning intercepted a Colt's clearance and his composed passing found Burnage in space on the edge of the area. Burnage instantly pulled the trigger to fire a right foot shot into the top right hand corner of the net.
Shortly after half time, a sweeping move down the right wing involving Ben Marlow found Ian Canning reaching the touch line before crossing the perfect ball to Captain Dye arriving at the back of the six yard box to slot the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
Despite being two nil down Stevenage Colts still had the spirit to fight back and won a free kick on the edge of the Lion's penalty area. The free kick curled out of reach of Gardner into the top corner for 2-1.
David Farr replaced the battling Ian Collier.
Despite the mud on a churned up pitch the last twenty minutes was a free flowing game as Colts tried to pull level whilst Breachwood tried to put the game safely out of reach. Lion's keeper Wayne Gardner pulled off a string of flying saves to keep the status quo. At the other end Harrison's header from a Burnage corner was tipped onto the bar by the Colt's keeper.
