Pied Piper 7 v 1 Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: French, A.Jefferies, Fildes, Jordan, Harrison, Griffin, D.Dye(C), Hearne, Burnage, Gardner, B.Dye

The first game in 2008 after the Christmas break saw the Lions play away to undefeated Division One leaders Pied Piper at Shephallbury Park.

Lion's could of taken the lead within the first five minutes when Wayne Gardner's long throw found Dan Dye on the far post, but unable to slot the ball into the net.

Minutes later Pied Piper took the lead with a strike from outside the box, and then doubled it after an unfortunate Hearne own goal on the edge of the six yard box.

French made a great save turning a long range dipping shot round the post.

Defender Pete Jordan's outstretched foot thwarted another Piper effort.

Breachwood had a couple of chances but Ben Dye was caught offside.

Piper extended their lead to four nil by half time.

The injured Adam Jefferies was replaced by Ian Canning who added more guile to the Lions attack.

Despite a passionate performance Hearne unfortunately scored another own goal with a clearence under pressure that went under French's bar.

Lion's scored a consolation goal when Danny Set up Ben Dye who beat the keeper one on one. He nearly scored an identical goal minutes later, but this time the keeper saved at his feet.

Griffin's slide rule pass set up Burnage for a run at goal before being fouled. Giving Fildes a chance from a free kick.

Piper scored twice more before the end of the game to win 7 -1, leaving Breachwood determined to do better in next weeks KLM Cup clash asgainst Pied Piper.
