Mallard Old Boys 6 v 3 Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: French, Griffin (C) Hill, Harrison, P.Farr, J.Mason, O.Mason, Pearson, Roberts, Lander, Canning

Today was top of the table against bottom of the table at Alleynes. Mallard took the lead on a counter attack with a cross from the right finding the forward in the box. However Breachwood hit straight back with a move between Pearson and the Mason brothers found Iain Canning on the right inside of the Mallard box to stike the ball into the top corner in off the bar.

Mallard scored their second when Breachwood failed to clear. Again the Lion's hit straight back when a Rob Pearson Freekick found Rick Hill at the back post to slot home.

Mallard ended the first half 3-2 up when a strike went in off the back of Captain Griffins leg.

Scott Jenkins replaced John Griffin and Chad Eldridge replaced Spencer Roberts.

In the second half, Mallard eventually extended their lead to six, but Breachwood still fought back.

Pete Farr had a good understanding with Canning on the left and the Mason brother continued to battle in attack.

Another Rob Pearson freekick found the head of Iain Canning a yard out from the back post for 6-3

SCS 5 v 1 Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: Gardner, Jordan, Jeffery, Hill, French, Griffin(C), Pearson, Canning, Batt, B.Dye, O.Mason

Ref: Currey

Breachwood were unable to get into passing rythmn and came undo early on with three quick moves from SCS

Breachwood made two changes that settled them down and got them some traction in the game . James Mason made his debut and replacing John Griffin, giving the midfield some extra bite and
Adam Jefferies replaced Nathan Batt.

Although SCS scored again the Lion's created some chances of their own through Canning and Pearson.

SCS led 3 nil at half time

Chris Anderson replaced Ben Dye midway in the second half after SCS had scored their forth and despite some tremendous saves from Gardner at close quarters.

Anderson's tenacious running paid off, using one touch to control a pass from midfield and then a composed drive low into the right hand corner of the SCS net to give Breachwood something to cheer about in the driving rain.

SCS managed to pinch one more goal before the end. Final score 5-1

Division 3 Cup Preliminary Round Roebuck Gate 4 v 2 Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: Jordan, Griffin(C), Jeffery, Hill, French, Lander, Pearson, Batt, Roberts, Harrison, O.Mason

Breachwood had the upper hand for most of the first with some great passages of play, with chances for Mason ,Batt and Pearson.

Not for the first time this season the opposition scored against the run of play, twice past stand in keeper Pete Jordan but not before Jordan had made some noteable saves.

Graham Frenchs free kick on the edge of the Roebuck box went agonisingly wide by a couple of inches.

At half time Ali Collins replaced Spencer Roberts.

The second half evolved into a cup tie with the introdcution of super sub Ali Collins. Nathan Batts sweeping cross from the left behind the Roebuck defence was the reward for Collins sprinting in from the right and he made no mistake slotting the ball into the net for 2-1

Despite suffering another sucker punch of another Roebuck goal for 3-1 Breachwood kept on the attack as Ed Jeffery battled the ball out of defence into midfield.

Rob Pearson played a one two with Harrison before a fine pass into the feet of Collins on the edge of the Roebuck box was finely executed by Collins for the second time and keeping the Lion's in the game for the last fifteen minutes.

Scott Jenkins replaced Seb Lander.

Breachwood seemed to beat the Roebuck defence a couple of more times but not the off side flag.

Gary Page replaced the injured Ricky Hill ten minutes from time but the game was killed off by a fourth Roebuck goal.

Final Score 4-2

Herts Junior County Cup Round 1 Lion's 1 v 8 US ACLI

Lion's starting eleven: Gardner, Jordan, Hill, French, Griffin(C), Harrison, Pearson, Canning, Batt, O.Mason, B.Dye

Referee: I. Brown

Todays game was against a team from Waltham Abbey in the next round of the County Cup.

Despite a couple of chances from Ben Dye and Ollie Mason, Breachwood soaked up a lot pressure.

The game turned when Wayne Gardner rushed off his line to bravely dive at the feet of the US ACLI forward who was through on the edge of the box. Gardner had to go off to hospital with a cut forehead and suspected broken nose.

Pete Jordan went in goal and Adam Jefferies came on as a substitute.

There was some good end to end football but the score was nil - nil at half time.

It took a curling shot from the edge of the box to open the scoring for US ACLI which was followed up with a quick second goal.

Breachwood responded with the substitution of Nathan Batt with Ali Collins.

Straight from the kick off Mason combined with Ian Canning whose cross was met with the head of Collins to pull a goal back for the Lion's

It was game on as Breachwood pushed for the equaliser with a series of corners, free kicks and chances for Dye and Mason.

However Breachwood were caught on the counter attack and their heads dropped once US ACLI scored their third goal. The tie was put beyond doubt with a further five more goals.

Ed Jeffery replaced the injured Ian Canning

Breachwood had their chances throughout the game but US ACLI had taken theirs.

Final Score 8-1 to US ACLI

Lion's 0 v 4 Roebuck Gate

Lion's starting eleven: Gardner, French, Hill, Jordan, GRiffin(C) Pearson, O.Mason, A.Jefferies, Batt, Harrison, Ben Dye

Ollie Mason almost scored within minutes of the start of the game after a run from midfield to behind the left back to receive a through ball, but saw his shot agonisingly roll across the goal and out for a goal kick.

Roebuck opened the scoring early when their forward intercepted a back pass to Gardner in goal from Captain Griffin after Griffin had done well to initially win the ball.

Roebuck scored twice again in the first half when the Lion' s were unable to stopped the ball passed in from the right of the penalty area and the forward scoring from six yards.

Despite the heavy rain, Breachwood were able to string together some good passing moves through Pearson but lacked the killer final ball to Mason and Dye up front.

The bad weather was ideal for the slide tackling of Ricky Hill

Roebuck led 3 nil at half time

In the second half Seb Lander replaced Harrison, Ed Jeffery replaced Adam Jefferies, Scott Jenkins replaced Pete Jordan.

Again Breachwood played well in patches but unable to find their killer instinct, despite some good running run from Jeffery and Batt trying to supply the forwards.

Roebuck capped their win with a forth goal ten minutes from time.

Lion's man of the match: Graham French for stern defending.

Substitutes not used: D.Farr, Rob Tumalty

Lion's 1 v 1 Broadhall Reserves

Starting eleven: Gardner, Griffin(C), French, Hill, Jordan, D.Dye, Pearson, Jeffery, Roberts, B.Dye, O.Mason

Ref: J.Batcheldor

It was evident from the start that this was going to be a tight game as both teams tested each other.
Breachwood were strong in defence and Dan Dye helped Rob Pearson move the ball through midfield.
It took a quick counter attack form Broahall to break the deadlock even though the Lion's tried in vain to stop the ball being scambled over the line from close range.

Despite going a goal down Breachwood continued to press Broadhall looking for the equaliser.

Broadhall looked on top for a fifteen minute spell but just before half time Roberts looped a great ball for Pearson but Ben Dye's shot was over the bar.

Broadhall led 1 nill at half time.

Breachwood made a gamble of making all three substitutions at half time. Seb Lander replaced Dan Dye, Ian Canning replaced Spencer Roberts and Ali Collins replaced Ed Jeffery.

Straight from the restart Ali Collins forced the Broadhall keeper to make a save after a run down the left wing.

A Graham French free kick went marginally wide after a foul on Collins.

Lander threaded the ball through to Canning for a shot on goal.

Mason saw a chance go wide.

A reflex save by Gardner keeps the Lion's in the game.

Ten minutes from time Ben Dye was in the right place to meet a cross from the right to equalise from six yards out. Boosted by the goal Breachwood finished the stronger team as they attempted to pinch all three points.

Final Score 1-1

Man of the Match Wayne Gardner for great reaction saves.

Frank Neville Memorial Cup Lion's 6 v 1 Fairlands

Lion's starting eleven: Gardner(C) French, Hill, Jordan, A.Jefferies, Pearson, D.Dye, Jeffery, Roberts, O.Mason, Harrison.

Ref: Michael French

Fairlands from Division 4 started the game with a goal advantage in the renamed Invitation Cup

Breachwood looked to claw back the deficit straight from the kick off. After a couple attempts on goal, Ollie Mason converted to get the Lion's game going.

Harrison poached a brace followed by another goal from Ed Jeffery.

Despite their superiority in the game, Breachwood laboured some of their chances.

Pearson had a couple of great shots go wide. A couple of corners and crosses from Roberts went unconverted.

Fairland stuck at it and nearly scored from a free kick if Gardner hadn't got down low to turn the ball round the post for a corner.

Lion's led 4-1 at half time.

In the second half Ben Dye returned replacing Harrison. After a failed bicycle kick Ben score fifteen minutes later, side stepping the ball past the Fairlands keeper.

Nathan Batt replaced Jeffery and worked well ahead of the sturdy Pete Jordan.

Scott Jenkins replaced Spencer Roberts. as Adam Jefferies pushed further forward and continued to create chances with Dan Dye in midfield.

Ten minutes from time Ollie Mason scored his second with a well taken shot low past the keeper into the bottom right corner of the net.

Final score: 6 nil to the Lions on the day but 6-1 in the tie. Breachwood go second in the Invitation Cup league phase of the competition on goal difference.

Rollin back the years ! February 2008 was the last time Breachwood won two games in a row and December 2005 since the Lion's kept two clean sheets in row!

Herts Junior Cup Round 2 Sandridge & Harvester Sports Reserves 0 v 5 Breachwood Lion's

Lions starting eleven: Gardner(C) Jordan, A.Jefferies, French, Hill, D.Dye, Pearson, Jeffery, Roberts, Mason, Harrison

The Lion made a good start with serveral chances in quick sucession, Harrison shot over he bar, both Mason and Pearson had effeorts that went wide.

But it wasnt long before Ollie Mason converted a through just inside the area under the advancing keeper.

Mason's second goal was similar, this time after a Beckhamesque through ball from Rob Pearson.

Breachwood's midfield passing was underpinned with a solid defensive display from the defenders. Adam Jefferies and Pete Jordan were able to link well with the wingers. Dan Dye and Rob Pearson worked hard at winning and distributing the ball in central midfield.

Despite being ahead Breachwood kept up the pressure.

Ricky Hill made a great run to the back post to head home a beautifully flighted free kick from Graham French.

Spencer Roberts forced the keeper to make a great save with a thunderous shot from the right wing.

In the second half Mason hit the post right within a minute of the restart.

On the left wing Edison Jeffery scored the goal of the game with riffled shot into the top corner. Shades of one of his goals against Times club last season.

After missing a prime opportunity in the first half, Harrison was on hand to make no mistake when the keeper parried a shot from Mason who was on a hatrick.

Pete Farr later replaced Harrison, Farr also had a couple of shots on goal.

With twenty minutes to go, Lander replaced Pearson in midfield and Scott Jenkins replaced Spencer Roberts on the wing.

Final Score 5 nil to Breachwood, the Lion's first win for eighteen months and second clean sheet of season thanks to keeper and captain for the game Wayne Gardner

Lion's 1 v 2 Athletico Peartree

Lion's starting eleven: Gardner, French, Hill, Roberts, Griffin(C), Harrison, Pearson, Jeffery, Batt, Chris Anderson, Mason

Breachwood made an encouraging start. Mason made the Peartree keeper work hard to keep the ball out of the goal, but Chris Anderson was on hand to scramble the ball over the line to give the Lion's the lead.

However not long after the restart Peartree's Terry Lock was able to traverse the Lion's eighteen yard line before firing a low shot past Gardner for 1-1

Ten minutes later Captain Griffin was judged to of fouled Lock in the area and referee Paul Cloon a awarded Peartree a penalty which Lock converted.

Just before halftime Lion's thought they had equalised when Grahams French free kick hit the Peartree bar and bounced down but the referee judged that the ball did not bounce over the line.

Both teams fought out the second half but the game finished 2-1 Peartree.

A Breachwood win remains elusive.

Scott Jenkins replaced Batt in the second half.

Subs not used: D.Farr, Jordan Bender

A couple of decent saves from Gardner kept the score at one nil at half time.

At half time Batt replaced Ed Jeffery on the wing.

Subs used: D.Farr, P.Farr, Jordon, Charlie Anderson, Eldridge, Tumalty

Ref:K. Trever

Breachwood's last Pre Season Friendly was against a good Coopers side from Division 4

It was a disappointing lathargic display from the Lion's. Despite some good saves, Gardner had a thankless task back in goal as the Lion's failed to close down the quick feet of the Coopers team. Cooper's scored three times before half time.

In the second half Breachwood held steady in the first 15 minutes with some roll on roll off substitutions and a bit of passion showed by Charlie Anderson, but Coopers scored another six in the last third of the game for an easy win 9-0.

The Lions have a few training sessions left in the next two weeks to get it right before the start of the new season at home to Chequers on 6th September.

Lion's starting eleven: Jordan, French, Griffin(C), Roberts, Jenkins, Harrison, Pearson, Batt, Jeffery, Chris, Knowles. Subs used: D.Dye, Ollie, D.Farr, P.Farr, Eldridge, Jordon, Dunnicliffe, B.Dye

The difference of two divisions clearly showed in this Pre Season Friendly against King Pin.
Pete Jordan had the thankless task of deputising for the Lion's No1 who was on holiday.

Despite the result some key points helped the Lion's in their preperation for the new season.
Rob Pearson had a great game in central midfield. Ollie got the consolation goal after the keeper spilled Ben Dyes shot. Ben Dye should of scored himself when he previously rattled the bar with a sweet shot and then lifted the ball over the bar from close range with just the keeper to beat minutes from time.

Breachwood have one last friendly against Division 4 side Coopers next Sunday.

PSF Lion's 1 v 3 Breachwood Old Boys

Following the Screwfast game and a break and a BBQ, the Lion's played an Old Boys XI to celebrate ten years of the club.

The Old Boys XI boasted many ex players at Screwfast as well Boxy,Jon Newton, Chris Squires, David, and legend Barry Fearon.

Despite some tired legs the Old Boys took a 2 nil lead including a solo goal from Turks, before French pulled one back halfway through the second half.

However the Old Boys wrapped up the game with a goal to win 3-1

PSF Lion's 0 v 2 Screwfast

Lion's starting eleven: Gardner, French, Roberts, Anderson, Jordan, A.Jefferies, Griffin(C), Chris?, Batt, Harrison, Pearson.

Subs: Eldridge, Jeffery, Tumalty, Jordon, D Farr

Dubbed the "Donde" Cup, Lion's first Pre season Friendly was against the teams sponsor Screwfast, in Breachwood's version of the Community Shield.

A Screwfast XI boasted ex Lion's players Canning, S.Farr, D.Dye, D.Jefferies, Burnage, Turkentine, Collins, P.Farr, J.Farr managed by former Lion's Manager Michael French.

A couple pints of Guiness and a gift of a bottle of 2005 Barolo hinder me in recounting every twist and turn in the game with a number of Sven style substitutions.

However both teams were evenly matched until the injury to Lions Adam Jefferies upset the Lion's rythmn. Lions first slip of their game plan saw an unmarked Ali Collins receive the ball from a crowd of players on the edge of the box and roll the ball tightly into the bottom corner of the Lions net. Scegewfast would have extended their lead moments later but Gardner saved at close range from Burnage. However Burnage managed to score the winner in the Second Half in off the post from outside the box.

Despite the scoreline, Lion's had pretty much kept to their game plan and had show some moments of confident play from youngsters Batt, Anderson, Jeffery, eldridge and Pearson.

Thank you to everyone who supported both sides and attended the presentation in the Pub afterwards.

Lion's1 v 5 Marquis Of Lorne

Breachwood starting eleven: Jeffrey, French, D.Farr, L.Griffin, Jordan, J.Griffin(C), Harrison, Pearson, Batt, Gardner, P.Farr

Breachwood had an encouraging start to their last game of the season against Marquis of Lorne.
Graham French was strong in defence with a Man of the Match display.

Despite Marquis scoring three goals in open play, Breachwood kept coming back at Marquis.

A perfect pass from fullback Pete Jordan allowed youngster Nathan Batt to attack down the left flank. Batt having his best game in his first season, cut inside the box and stroked a composed shot across the keeper into the far side of the Lorne net.

1-3 at half time

In the second half Anderson replaced Batt, Jenkins replaced Jordan and Eldridge replaced Pete Farr.

The second half was intensly competitive, Griffin junior and Pearson chased every ball.
Marquis scored twice more.

Lion's Captain John Griffin's shot rattled the Marquis crossbar, Harrison had a shot saved, Pete Farr and Gardner also created chances.

Just before the end Gardner chasing Anderson's through ball had a chance to pull back another goal anf claim the top scorers boot, but squared an unselfsh pass to Chad Eldridge, who somehow missed from two yards.

Despite the tough game Breachwood had played with passion

Final Score 1-5

King Pin 10 v 0 Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: Jeffrey, French, D.Farr, L.Griffin, Jordan, Harrison, J.Griffin(C), Eldridge, Batt, Gardner, Anderson

With Breachwood's tough defending, it took until halfway through the first half for King Pin to open the scoring as they pressed to win the League by winning todays game at King George's.

Breachwood had a couple of chances when Gardner won a couple of free kicks. The Lion' s challenged for every ball and were not going to give up lightly.

A dubious goal that was potentially offside just before half time essentially finished the game.

In the second half King Pin scored another 8 goals, most from close range.

Jenkins replaced Eldridge.

Both Jenkins and Gardner fashioned chances for Breachwood.

Despite ten goals, Jeffrey was the Lions man of the match.

The result meant Kin Pin are League 2 champions and received a deserved round of applause from the Lion's.

Thanks to Dave, Rob and Samuel our suffering away supporters.

Breachwood had taken the lead for only the third time this season.

The subsequent pressure from Procladd began to tell with three quick goals before half time.

In the second half D.Farr and Jordan replaced the injured P. Farr and Pearson.

A1 Trophies 5 v 2 Breachwood Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: Weeks, French, Anderson, L.Griffin, P.Farr, J.Griffin, Gardner, Marlow, Jeffrey, Harrison, Batt.

The Lion's got off to a high tempo start and creating chances, Gardner had a shot from range.
Marlow picked up the ball from Griffin junior and had a good run cutting inside from the right and forcing a corner.

Anderson charged forward from one eighteen yard box to the other and was unlucky with the final ball.

Jeffrey battled and combined well with Batt on the left wing.

The deadlock was finally broken when Peter Farr took on two players before lifting the ball over the defence, Harrison lobbed the oncoming keeper only to see the ball come back off the bar but managed to crash home the robound to give the Lion's a deserved lead after thirty minutes.

Breachwood came undone with two quick goals from A1 either side of half time.

In the second half Scott Jenkins replaced the injured Pete Farr and Chad Eldridge replaced Nathan Batt, substituting one pair of tireless running legs with another.

It was end to end stuff, but A1 increased their lead, intercepting a back header from Anderson to goalkeeper Michael Weeks, who despite the score line made some great saves.

Breachwood pulled a scrappy goal back through Eldridge, who somehow managed to beat the offside.

When A1 went 5-2 up Breachwood's best chance to narrow the deficit came when a back pass meant the Lions have a free kick inside the A1 penalty area. Gardner's rifled shot skimmed the top of the A1 trophies bar.

Despite the scoreline, Capt Griffin's side had an encouraging performance.

Final Score 5-2 to A1 Trophies

Division 2 Cup Quarter Final: King Pin 14 v 0 Lion's

Lion's starting eleven: French, L.Griffin, D.Farr, J.Griffin(C), Anderson, Harrison, Gardner, Pearson, Batt, Jeffery, Eldridge

The difference in league positions quickly showed in this Division 2 quarter final with Pin going ahead early on.

Breachwood's best first half chance came from Jeffrey and Batt breaking away on the left, but the final shot from Eldridge went wide.

French made a great save pushing the ball onto the bar but the Pin forward headed home the rebound.

Jenkins replaced David Farr before half time.

Louis Griffin was unfortunate to give away a penalty for handball.

The Lion's were eight nil down at half time at King Georges

Breachwood tried to shuffle the pack at half time.

In the second half Pearson operated in the middle and came close with a shot from mid way inside the King Pin half.

One of Gardners long throws went into the top corner of the Pin net but unfortunately missed the heads in the box.

Despite the score line the Lion's battled on to the end. A thankless taks in goal but Graham French kept the score down!

Final Score, 14-0 to King Pin who go through to the semi final .
