Bedwell Rangers 4 v 3 Lions

Lion's starting eleven: Drury, J.Mason, French, Bass, A.Jefferies, Turkentine(C), Griffin, D.Farr, O.Mason, Canham, Taaffe

Peartree Park. Ref S.Pinner

Breachwood had  couple of good early chances that fell to Ollie Mason and Richard Taaffe after some great passing movement but also both chances went amiss.

However Breachwood managed to capitalise on their flourishing start when Turkentine's through ball allowed Taaffe to beat the last defender and push the ball past the outcoming keeper into the bottom corner of the net for one nil. It was soon two nil to the Lion's when Turkentines cross from near the tight hand corner flag found Taaffe again at the back post to score.

Bedwell began to come back into the game forcing Drury to make couple of saves. However he was unable to fully hold a high ball, the loose ball was a gift for the forward to pull one back for Bedwell.

Bedwell equalised as half time approached.

In the second half Knight replaced Graham French. Despite the game being well balanced, Breachwood twice were unable to clear the ball effectively in the last third. In both instances Bedwell capitalised on the opportunities with two well taken goals to give them a 4-2 lead.

With time running out , a determined Sam Canham pulled one back for the Lions

Final Score 4-3

Lions starting eleven: Drury, J.Mason, French, A.Potton, Dye, Turkentine, D.Farr, Canham, O.Mason, A.Jefferies

Ref: Dave Bailey

Some great passing movement from the Lions in the first five minutes but it was an even first half overall with the clearest chance falling to Coopers with a free kick midway in the Lions half that tested the Lions keeper who had to turn the ball round the post.

Knight replaced David Farr

In the second half Breachwood started off the stronger, great chance for Ollie Mason who hit the side netting.

It was Ollie Mason's cross by the corner flag that found the Breachwood substitute at the far post to volley into the roof of the net for one nil.

Coopers fought back, hitting the bar after congested play in the lions six yard box.

After further pressure Coopers scored from close range but was ruled out for offside.

Sam Canham flashed a shot past the Coopers post. Ollie Mason hit the corner of the post and bar.

James Mason tested the keeper from range. And the final shot of the game was from Adam Jefferies but it was straight at the keeper.

FNM Cup Lions 0 v 3 ABC Taxis

Lion's starting eleven: Fildes, A.Jefferies, French, J.Mason, Lewis, Dye, Turkentine(C), Griffin, Rees, Hansen, Harrison

On a cold snowy Breachwood morning the Lion's were two goals behind at the start due to the competitions rules with ABC Taxis being in Division 3.

Naturally Breachwood tried to narrow the gap from the off. Adam Jefferies and Iaian Turnetine tried to test the ABC keeper from outside the penalty area.

As the half went on the Lion's weren't  getting much traction, ABC;s sweeping long ball deep back into the Lions half proved effective in disrupting Breachwoods normal flowing game. Sam Canham replaced Harrison.

In the second half Ali Collins replaced Lewis in an effort to keep the ABC defence busy.
But with ten minutes of the game remaining ABC scored the only goal of the game after Lions's push up and a stray ball through found their forward in a position to push the ball high past Lion's goalkeeper Andy Fildes.

Final Score 3 nil to ABC Taxis

CSSFL Challenge Cup: Lion's 1 v 4 TC Wanderers

Today was the Lion's first game since 13th January due to the weather against Third Division side TC Wanderers. Breachwood had previously beat TC Wanderers pre season 5 v 1 away but today TC came out top, leading two nil at half time. Breachwood pulled one back at the 60 minute point when a free kick by the corner flag from Richard Taaffe was too deep for most in the box apart from an unmarked John Griffin at the back post. (one to savour for the quiz nights)  Breachwood pushed for the equaliser only to be stung twice on the break by TC.

D1LC Chequers 1 v 2 Lion's AET

Lion's starting eleven: Fildes, Lewis, J.Mason, Turkentine(C), A.Jefferies, Dye, Taaffe, Canham, Hansen, Rees, Collins

Recent games between these two sides have been close high scoring games, so with the edge of a cup tie, it was going to be an interesting game. However both sides missed a number of chances in the first half with the nil nil at half time. Chequers could of scored with a header from a corner going straight over bar. Canham blasted over the bar from close range and Taaffe hit the outside of the post from the edge of the box. Collins hit a low free kick from inside the D.

Breachwood had the advantage fo the King Georges downhill slope in the second half and were able to put together some great passing movements in midfield, Adam Jefferies played a couple of cunning diagonal crosses from deep to the Lions forwards, whilst twinkle toes Dan Dye and Richard Taaffe sprayed the ball out wide to either Hanson or Canham. The two winger swapped sides in an effort to break the deadlock.

Carl Thompson on the Chequers goal pulled off a couple of close range saves from Martin Rees and from Sam Canham after he nutmegged the defender.

However the deadlock was broken when centre forward Ali Collins worked an extra yard to the side of the defender into the box to fire a low shot under the Chequers keeper 7 minutes from time.

The game looked won but two minutes later the Chequers forward who had been pressing the Lions back four for most of the game was able to find the space to turn a defender a shoot pass Brendan Hansen , now in goal after Andy Fildes went off with a thigh strain.

The game went into extra time and Breachwood benefitted from the fresh legs of midfield maestro John Griffin in midfield. Iaian Turkentine put in a man of the match performance as the last man, but James Mason and Scotty Lewis anticipated the final through ball from Chequers more often than not.

Graham French replaced Adam Jefferies.

Just as the game looked like it was going to penalties,an uncontested ball in the air enabled Taaffe turn and pull off an acrobatic shot to score the winner at 2-1

A great game played by both sides.
